Zach Hancock

Assistant Professor

I'm an evolutionary biologist who specializes in spatial population genetics and phylogenetics with a focus on marine crustaceans. My research integrates field, molecular, and computational techniques. I'm also the Curator of Invertebrates at the Augusta University Biorepository and co-manage the Science Hall Aquarium. When I'm not getting pinched by crabs, I enjoy a good book, creative writing, and long walks.

Autumn Larson

Undergraduate

I am a senior year Ecology student that really likes evolutionary biology, especially in marine and estuarine environments. I am currently looking at gene expression of heat shock proteins in fiddler crabs to see how they would respond in a warming environment. Outside of lab and field work, I like video games, vampires, and kayaking!

Danielle Carrion

Undergraduate

I am currently a senior studying biology with an ecology concentration and am interested in conservation genetics and museum curation. My research project will be focused on shark conservation genetics using museum specimens. In my free time I enjoy doing crafts (like crocheting and scrapbooking), reading, and listening to music!

Casey Seiter

Undergraduate

I am currently a senior ecology and anthropology double major interested in (human) evolution, public health, several subdisciplines of anthropology, and a growing interest in how genetic factors influence evolutionary processes. My research project is focused on the genome of a species of amphipod that has never been sequenced before. In my spare time, I enjoy knitting and crocheting, nonfiction reading, and local live music.

Interested in joining the lab? The Hancock Lab is looking for motivated undergraduates to help with a range of funded projects on the evolutionary genetics of coastal crustaceans.

For potential graduate students, AU offers a range of Master's programs that could fit in with the lab. These include Biostatistics, Biological & Computational Mathematics, and Biomolecular Sciences.
